German bronze mortar, Germanic School. 17th century. Cast and chased bronze. The mortar has a truncated conical shape with two side handles and a body profusely decorated with friezes of vegetal scrolls and mythological figures in relief. The upper part is topped by an ornamental epigraphic inscription that runs around the perimeter, probably commemorating or alluding to the object's medicinal use. The piece is accompanied by its original pestle, also in bronze, which underscores its excellent state of preservation. The quality of the modeling, the density of the ornamentation, and the balance of forms demonstrate remarkable technical mastery on the part of the founder, placing this piece within the high-quality German production of the period. Its morphology and iconographic repertoire link it to Renaissance mortars from the Germanic world, used in both apothecaries and wealthy homes. Its importance lies not only in its functionality but also in its artistic value as a decorative and symbolic object. Dimensions: 12 × 14 × 14 cm
