Landscape with a Horseback Rider. Spanish Luminist School. 20th Century. Oil on cardboard. The composition is framed by reddish stone architecture on the right and a white wall on the left, which draw the eye to a figure on horseback beneath an arch. The scene is bathed in warm light that highlights the foliage, whitewashed walls, and lush vegetation. The loose and vibrant brushstrokes reveal a spontaneous and fluid execution, with a rich palette of greens, earth tones, and blues. The impasto and gestural brushwork evokes the Post-Impressionist style. Signed by Cecilio Pla, this landscape blends academic tradition and modernity, sensitively capturing the rural setting and luminous atmosphere. A work of considerable interest within the genre of Spanish landscape painting. 33 × 24 cm.
Town of Sitges. Catalan School. 20th Century. Oil on panel. This painting, characterized by its agile brushstrokes and vibrant colors, depicts an urban scene in the town of Sitges. Its church and coastal architecture are suggested amidst masses of pastel color and intense contrasts. Figures in motion, barely sketched with energetic brushstrokes, lend dynamism to the composition, alluding to a lively, Mediterranean daily life. The expressive style employs a palette of warm colors alongside cool tones that balance the whole, highlighting the spontaneous freshness of the painterly gesture. The work belongs to the tradition of 20th-century Catalan painting, close to late Noucentisme and certain Post-Impressionist currents, where capturing the atmosphere and the immediacy of the visual impression are prioritized over anecdotal detail. 30 × 17 cm.
Beach Scene. Vives Maristany - Catalan School. 20th Century. Oil on panel. A composition with a summery atmosphere depicting a beach scene enlivened by figures suggested through patches of color. A large red parasol dominates the foreground, casting a shadow on the central figure, while other silhouettes are arranged along the sandy horizon. The brushwork is free, gestural, and remarkably expressive in its use of color, with marked contrasts between the blue of the sky, the ochre of the sand, and the warm tones of the figures and objects. The vibrant and concise brushstrokes seek to capture the sensation of light rather than detailed description, in an aesthetic that connects with the artistic explorations of 20th-century Catalan Post-Impressionism. The work stands out for its compositional freshness and its ability to evoke a sunny and carefree atmosphere. 29 × 15 cm.
Female Portrait in a White Dress. Signed. Spanish School. 20th Century. Oil on canvas. Dimensions: 75 cm x 59 cm (99 cm x 82 cm). The female figure, depicted half-length, turns her head towards the viewer with a seductive and confident expression. The face, rendered with attention to chiaroscuro and the expressiveness of the gaze, contrasts with the vibrant turquoise background. The richly textured white dress suggests floral motifs and reflections of light, contributing to the figure's ethereal aura. The brushwork is loose and vibrant, with a textural treatment of the painted surface characteristic of studio painting from the first half of the 20th century. Signed “Pedro Goss”. This work, introspective and decorative in nature, exalts femininity from a modern and melancholic perspective.
Path Among Birches and Sunset on the Riverbank. Catalan School, 20th Century. Oil on canvas. Dimensions: 24 cm x 38 cm each. A set of two landscapes that capture the bucolic tranquility of the Mediterranean. In the first, a path winds through birch trees and rocks, with a figure that provides scale and narrative. In the second, a boat glides along a river at sunset, next to a rural house enveloped in greenery. The loose brushstrokes and the use of filtered light capture the serenity of the surroundings. The balanced composition and earthy palette reflect a post-Impressionist aesthetic characteristic of the 20th-century Catalan school, which revalued the landscape as an emotional and contemplative space.
